Brookings Youth Wrestling Program

Welcome to the Brookings Youth Wrestling Club page!

The Brookings Youth Wrestling Club meets every
Monday & Tuesday evenings, 5:30pm - 6:30pm
at the SDSU HPER Center wrestling room.

It is comprised of youths age 4 through 14 years.  We will begin the season by focusing on the fundamentals (takedown, escapes, reversals, pinning combinations, etc.)   The program is geared toward exposing children to wrestling, and preparing them for middle and high school wrestling.

The club will provide the uniform (singlet) for a small deposit, which will be returned at the end of the season when the uniform is returned.  Wrestling headgear and a mouthguard is recommended, though optional, and be purchased from the sporting goods dealer of your choice.

Tournaments are generally individual, and you sometimes have many choices to pick from.  We will announce in practice the tournaments that the club is supporting.  We will pre-register your children for these tournaments, if possible, and we will announce these at practice the Monday before the tournament.
Otherwise you must pre-register on your own when you arrive at the tournament. If a tournament prefers pre-registration, we can weigh in your wrestler for you and give you a weight slip if you request it.

We believe you'll find wrestling one of the most rewarding sports your child will be involved in.  Wrestling will build strength of character and humility, and provide them confidence that no other sport can provide.  Wrestling will teach them how to handle adversity, and to think under pressure.  Wrestling emphasizes good sportsmanship.  It is also one of the most natural (and perhaps overlooked) of the martial arts.  Wrestling was the "first sport" that men participated in, and thus has thousands of years of history behind it.
